学長挨拶
尾道市立大学は、瀬戸内の十字路として交通の要衝である尾道市に立地して、これまで地域と共に発展して、特長?特色ある教育を実践して参りました。それは、先人達が努力して築いてきた尾道という地域での高等教育機関としての歴史と伝統を基盤としております。本学は、最高学府として社会からの負託に応えつつ、本学の理念である「知と美」の探究と創造によりさらに学問領域を発展させるとともに、その成果を学生教育に展開して次世代に伝達しております。また、公開講座等により地域社会にも還元しております。
本学は、経済情報学部経済情報学科、芸術文化学部日本文学科、芸術文化学部美術学科の2学部3学科と大学院の経済情報研究科、日本文学研究科、美術研究科の3研究科からなる規模としては小さな公立大学ですが、中国?四国地域を中心としながら、全国各地から本学で学びたい(尾道で学びたい)学生が集まっております。そうした意欲ある学生たちは、各教育課程で学修者本位の教育を通して専門分野の所定単位数を修得することで、学問の研鑽を積んで行きます。そして、本学のディプロマ?ポリシー(DP)で示している以下の３つの学修成果を達成して、企業や地域から求められる有為な人材として社会に羽ばたいていっています。

優秀な学生を社会に多く送り出すことは、公立大学である本学のミッションであることは言うまでもありません。さらに、尾道の地域で学んだ卒業生?修了生が、それを国際社会や地域での活動で「強み」に出来るように、すなわち「尾道での学びを誇れる大学」となるように努力しております。そして、地域の皆様、関係諸機関の皆様のご協力とご支援を賜りながら、公立大学として本来のミッションを遂行するとともに、「地域と共に育つ大学」でありたいと思います。

Welcome to Onomichi City University
Onomichi City University is located in Onomichi City, a crossroads of the Setouchi Inland Sea and a key transportation hub. It has developed together with the region to provide unique education. It is based on the history and tradition of Onomichi as a higher education institution in the region, built through the efforts of our predecessors. In response to the mandate from society as the premier academic institution, our university further develops its academic fields through the exploration and creation of "knowledge and beauty," which is our university's philosophy, and applies the results to student education.We are passing it on to the next generation. We also give back to the local community through public lectures and others.
Our university consists of two faculties and three departments: The Department of Economics, Management, and Information Science in the Faculty of Economics, Management, and Information Science and the Department of Japanese Literature and the Department of Art and Design in the Faculty of Art and Culture, as well as three graduate schools, including the Graduate Schools of Economics, Management, and Information Science, Japanese Literature, and Art and Design. Although it is a small public university, students who want to study at our university (and want to learn in Onomichi) come from all over the country, mainly from the Chugoku and Shikoku regions. These motivated students will further their academic studies by acquiring a designated number of credits in their specialized fields through learner-oriented education in each curriculum. By achieving the following three learning outcomes in our university's Diploma Policy (DP), our students enter society as talented individuals in demand by companies and local communities.

As a public university, we aim to send many talented students to society. Furthermore, we strive to enable graduates and alums who have studied in the Onomichi area to use this knowledge as a strength in their activities in the international community and the local community, in other words, to become a university that can be proud of their studies in Onomichi. With the cooperation and support of the local community and related organizations, we hope to fulfill our original mission as a public university and become a university that grows together with the community.
